Dolores J. Kalis

Dolores J. Kalis, age 77, of Capital Hill Road, Eben, died on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 10:45 a.m. at the Munising Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 24, 1930 to the late Chester and Mary Edna (Payne) Jamison, in Steubenville, Ohio. On November 15, 1952 Dolores married Fred Kalis, and together they raised their three children. While living down state she worked at the Hudson Department Store and Detroiter Truck Stop. Dolores and Fred moved to the U.P. in the spring of 1987. After the death of her husband in January of 1988, Dolores and her son Bruce became co-owners of the Uno Lodge Resort on Corner Lake. She was a hard worker, on top of managing the resort and keeping the deer hunters fed, Dolores worked as a summer hire for the U.S. Forest Service. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, watching the Lord of the Ring movies, listing to The Long and Winding Road by the Beatles, and smelling her favorite flower the lilac. Dolores was a fun loving woman, and her character will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son – Bruce Kalis Sr., of Eben; grandchildren – Bruce Jr., and Christine Kalis of Eben; and sister – Sharon Muncey of Flat Rock, MI. Dolores is preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1988, Parents Chester and Mary Edna, Daughter Lynn Kalis in 1988, son James Kalis in 1998, and sister Carol Jamison.
