David Warren Lake
(December 25, 1942 - August 26, 2007)  

Negaunee / AuTrain

David Warren Lake, age 64, of 143 Midway Drive, Negaunee, died unexpectedly at his camp in AuTrain early Sunday morning, August 26, 2007. He was born in Wakefield on December 25, 1942 to Everett and Lila (Synkelma) Lake. Dave graduated from Bessemer High School in 1960 and earned his Associates Degree from Gogebic Community College. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1964 until October 1966. Dave married Karen Lynn Parkkila on August 30, 1969. Dave worked as a driver for United Parcel Service for over thirty years, retiring in 1997. He and Karen wintered in Hernando, Florida for the past nine years and they enjoyed traveling together. Dave loved sports of every kind, playing cribbage, and spending time at camp in AuTrain.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years – Karen Lake of Negaunee; son – Jeffrey Lake of Escondido, CA; mother – Lila Lake of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; brother and sister-in-law – Kenneth and Joy Lake of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; nephews and nieces – Gordy (Veronica) Lake, Erin (Mark) Bachand, and Joel (Kerry) Lake; grandnieces and grandnephew – Celeste, Ashley, Jack, and Summer; special nephew – Darrell & Dawn Silta and grand nephew – Logan Silta and grandniece – Taylor Silta; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dave was preceded in death by his father Everett Lake.

Services for Dave will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Thursday, August 30, 2007. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. Pastor Paul D. Kelto will conduct Dave’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors. Dave will be escorted by Joel Lake, Darrell Silta, Richard Silta, Bill Perander, and Jim Maki.
