Saima “Sam” McGee, age 80, formerly of Marquette, died on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 10:40 a.m. at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on October 12, 1925 in Chatham to John and Hilda (Jamback) Lintula. Sam was raised in Chatham and graduated from Eben High School. Following graduation, she moved to Detroit and then to Commerce Lake, Michigan. Sam lived thirty-one years in Commerce Lake before she returned to the Upper Peninsula and moved to Marquette in 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of the Chatham Apostolic Lutheran Church. Sam loved antiques and enjoyed buying and selling them at the Flea Market. She was very talented at restoring and repairing jewelry and antique dolls, and she also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter – Linda Antaya of Oxnard, CA; her son – Robert McGee of Evanston, WY; daughter-in-law – Colette McGee of Evanston, WY; two step-sons – Michael (Kathy) McGee and Steven (Karla) McGee all of Lancaster, CA; grandchildren – Nicole Antaya, Angel Davis, and Vincent, Logan, Tucker, Shannon, Amber, Maggie, and Steven McGee; great-grandchild – Taylor Davis; sister – Helen McGee of Marquette; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sam was preceded in death by her infant twin sister Impi Ilona Lintula, and sisters Heidi Bennett, Lillie Anderson, Marge Dorfman, Aileen Wiitanen, and brothers Willie, John, and Ed Lintula.
A memorial service will be conducted by Roger Kangas on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the services. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham.
