MELBA CICELIA NEGILSKI
Melba Cicelia Negilski, age 84, of Munising, died following a brief
illness on Sunday, August 10, 2003 at Marquette General Hospital. She
was born on May 27, 1919 in Caspian, Michigan to the late Charles and
Cicelia (Frangquist) Negilski. Melba moved to Munising as a young child
and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1937. She worked at the
Munising Co-op before marrying Stanley M. Negilski on August 3, 1942.
They were married over 52 years before he preceded her in death on April
18, 1995. Melba was a homemaker and raised her two sons before beginning
employment with the Munising Public School system. She was a teacher’s
aide for many years in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Melba was a member of the
United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She and
Stanley were very active in the Polish-American Society. She was a
wonderful cook and not only made wonderful cinnamon buns, but spent many
weeks helping prepare food for the annual “Polka Mass”. Melba was a
member of the Munising Senior Citizens and she played in the Kitchen
Kettle Band. She served on the Housing Commission Board and was on the
Election Canvassing Board. She enjoyed Polka music and watching Lawrence
Welk on Saturday evenings. Melba loved being a grandmother to her
grandchildren and she enjoyed her family and friends. She was generous
with her time and talents and people were her profession.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law – David and Gail of
Greenfield, IN; two grandchildren; brothers – Roswell (Pearl) Anderson
of Munising and Alard (Helen) Anderson also of Munising; and numerous
nieces and nephews who loved her very much.
Besides her parents and husband, Stanley, Melba was preceded in death by
a son, Stephen Charles on February 10, 1979, and a brother, Marlin
Anderson.
Deacon James Anderson and Rev. James Downing will conduct her funeral
service on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Bowerman Funeral
Chapel. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Munising,
Northwoods Home Health and Hospice, or the Lakeshore Manor Memorial Fund
in memory of Melba.
