Ernest "Ernie" Zimmerman
(April 25, 1918 - June 30, 2006)

Munising

Ernest “Ernie” Zimmerman, age 88, of 200 W. City Park Drive, Munising, died at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2006 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. He was born on April 25, 1918 in Hopewell, Pennsylvania to Kenneth and Leona (Fluke) Zimmerman. Ernie was raised in Pennsylvania and moved to Lansing at the age of eleven. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the EAME. Ernie earned the EAME Service Ribbon with Three Bronze Service Stars for battles at Rhineland, Northern France, and Central Europe, the American Service Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. Ernie married Elizabeth “Betty” nee Ensley White on June 29, 1946. He had worked and retired from Motor Wheel Corporation in Lansing. Ernie was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

He is survived by his wife of over sixty years – Betty Zimmerman of Munising ; sons – Larry (Sue) White of Lansing and Jack (Yvonne) Zimmerman of Wetmore; daughter-in-law – Marilyn White of Lansing; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Ernie was preceded in death by his son Bob White and brothers Kenneth and Virgil Zimmerman.
