BIRTH RECORDS

Statewide registration of Michigan births began in 1867. Prior to that, vital records may have been recorded in township or county clerks' offices, at churches, or not at all. The links provided below are for locating Michigan birth records during different time periods. In order to search the familysearch.org website for free birth records, registration is required, however it is free.

To perform your search after clicking on a link below, enter a last name (at the very least) and input PLACE as Emmet County, Michigan, to narrow down your search. Otherwise it will search the entire state of Michigan. Records are sometimes indexed with incorrect spellings of first and/or last names. If you don't find a record for the name you want, try a different spelling.

Michigan Births and Christenings, 1775-1995 - These records are not indexed. This means you will need to scroll through a high number of images to find the actual image of the record you want. It is quite possible to find a record this way. I have done it successfully many times. Images may be in date order or alphabetical which should help.
