DEATH RECORDS

Statewide registration of Michigan deaths began in 1867. Prior to that, vital records may have been recorded in township or county clerks' offices, at churches, or not at all. The links provided below are for locating Michigan death records during different time periods. In order to search the familysearch.org website for free death records, registration is required, however it is free.

To perform your search after clicking on a link below, enter a last name (at the very least) and input PLACE as Emmet County, Michigan, to narrow down your search. Otherwise it will search the entire state of Michigan. Records are sometimes indexed with incorrect spellings of first and/or last names. If you don't find a record for the name you want, try a different spelling.

The following links are for "no fee" records. A few require a paid subscription and are indicated with an asterisk (*). If you know of any other links not listed here that provide Michigan birth records, please let us know.
