- SCHRODER, ZINK posted by Marlene Fabbro on Sunday, February 1, 1998
- I am looking for my ancestors that may have stopped in Ionia on the way to residence in
Emmet County. A submitter to the Pommern List suggested that there was a "German
Town" at one time in Ionia, sometime in the last part of the nineteenth century. Do
you know if there has been any research on this that I could access? I would be glad to
pay for copies of any material. I have checked the census records of Ionia for my
ancestor, Ferdinand ZINK and wife, Johanna SCHRODER (sp?) Zink without success and do not
know where else to turn. I am ultimately trying to find the village of origin for the
Zinks in Pommerania, Germany. Any help you could offer would be much appreciated.
- COLE, GOLDEN, LORD, MOYER posted by Jim Moyer on Sunday, February 1, 1998
- JNO (John) MOYER came to Canada 1857 with wife Temperance R. COLE and 4 children and
farmed south of Woodstock, Ont for abt 15 yrs then moved to Ionia. Mich., His son Morgan
who was my great grandfather stayed here. When John died in Ionia approx 1894 his wife
Temperance returned to Woodstock to reside with her son Morgan and at that time showed
only 2 survivors. Morgan of Woodstock and a Mrs GOLDEN of Ionia, Mi. I wondered if any
obits in your paper that might give more info as the one here didn't mention birth places
or parent. but when his wife Temperance died in Woodstock in 1897 it said she came from
York County Penn, but I havent had much luck tracing that end. There are a lot of Moyers
and believe they were originally Penn Dutch. I suppose it possible there might be Goldens
still in Ionia that could be decendents. Incidentally when I was young lad I spent many
enjoyable holidays at my great aunt and uncle name of Ester and Edward LORD who lived in
Fenton Mi. for many years and were burried in Holly Mi. This Ester Lord was a daughter of
Morgan and granddaughter of John Moyer.
- ALBERT, BABCOCK, BROTHERTON, HAYDEN, LINTON, LOHS, LOWE, ROSACRANS, STEARNS posted by Dave Yencso on
Sunday, February 1, 1998
- My name is Dave Yencso, I'm 35, and I grew up in Flint and Davison. I'm in California
now, and I research my genealogy out here. Today, I was looking in a storage box at an
antique doll I own, and I found an envelope full of photos made into postcards, circa
1908. I bought these at the Elba flea market in 1976. Specifically, I found some pictures
of the athletic teams of Lake Odessa High School, class of 1908. I have these names on
one, a women's ball team: "Jo" HAYDEN, Fern LOWE, Caroline STEARNS, Marian
ROSACRANS, Grace ALBERT, Lydia BABCOCK, Bessie BROTHERTON, and Florence LINTON. This
pictures was taken by Myrna Service at the Tecumseh baseball park. I've got a football
team picture, too. It is a pictures of the 1908 LOHS team. Being a genealogist, I'd love
to put these photos in the hands of a caring descendant or in a public archive in your
area. If you have any interest in these photos or an idea of who may want them, please let
me know.

BARBER. Mary was part Chippewa from the chief Okemos tribe. They lived near Muir. I have
the ATWELL history and it goes back to Joseph Atwell b. 1820 then follows the maternal
DAINS line to 1620. The Barber and Atwells married and lived around Portland. The families
connected with this one are BARBER, ATWELL, LOGAN, DAINS, DAYNES, SANDBORN, NEWMAN,
WILCOX, HANSON, HUDSON and others. These are my main Ionia co connections. I also Have the
REEB family which lived near St. Johns but many different members started out in or have
records in Ionia co and it includes the DEGURSE's who came from Ontario and The SUMNERS
and PETINGILS who came from NY to Ionia. then I have PLOWMAN who came from England to NY
to St. Johns MI and married into the Barber family. I have my own ,CONWAY, but I don't
think there are any members around here. I have TSCHETTER back to the 1400's but it is
mostly in N Dakota and Canada. And I have various old photos from all the families.

- My great uncle John Killeen lived in Portland, Mi. for many years. He was a Civil War
veteran, born in 1849 in New York. I wonder if you have any information on him. I have
several newspaper clipping copies of he and his G.A.R. buddies getting together at the
Jacjson, Mi. post. I know nothing about John Killeen, whether he was married, children
etc. I just have these clippings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I work all day
and cannot get to records offices as much as I would like.I am pretty sure he is buried in
Portland as well.Thank you so much in advance. Sincerely, Dianne Coil

- CONNER posted by Marilyn Rector
on Wednesday, February 18, 1998
- I am asking for any CONNER descendants (or others) to contact me with what ever
information you have. The material I am compiling is a collection of all the references I
have found (census, Ionia history references, city directories, etc.) from the earliest
settlers in the 1830's through the 1880's. What I have, then, is not meant to be
considered as a complete study of each family or person, but rather to make available a
collection of facts which may provide valuable information or clues for those who wish to
do further research. I would hope to encourage both those who might have information about
the early Conners as well as later generations to share that with us. I would also like to
encourage you to cite your sources, whether it be published records or family tradition
and oral history. Thank you.
- MOSHER, MOSHIER, MOSIER posted by Scot Reed on
Sunday, February 22, 1998
- Looking for ancestors and descendents of Daniel MOSHER (or MOSHIER), who is listed in
the 1870 and 1880 census for Lyons township, Ionia county, MI. He was born in New York
state, and fought in the Civil War in Co. B of the 8th Michigan Infantry (he lost a leg in
the battle of Wilderness -- I have his discharge papers). He married Maria ? around 1867
and had three children: Augustus, Maude, and William. He moved to St. Johns, Clinton
county, sometime before 1900. I'd like to hear from anyone research this surname, even if
there doesn't appear to be a match.
- CRANE, LOWREY, WELCH posted by Debra J. Eddy on
Sunday, February 22, 1998
- Does anyone know anything about John O.C. WELCH? His name is written in census records
and his marriage record as Osie and Ocie Welch, of Berlin Twp. and Ionia, Michigan. He was
born 1849/50, NY, and died in May 1919 (buried Lakeside Cem., Lake Odessa, MI). He was the
only known sibling of my 3rd great-grandmother, Harriet (Welch) LOWREY. I'm also trying to
determine exactly who their parents were. (Harriet's death record gives her parents as
John Welch and Sarah CRANE, which I think is in error as in 1850 they were living with
Simpson Welch, 45, and Sarah, 19, in the household of John W. Crane of Berlin.) His brief
obituary mentioned a daughter, Ida, the wife of Day Sayers of Portland. If anyone knows
anything about Osie/Ocie Welch or his daughter, please e-mail me. Thanks.

- ROBBINS posted by Tom O'Neil
on Tuesday, February 24, 1998
- My gg-grandfather Joseph Franklin ROBBINS with his extended family moved to South
Boston, Ionia, MI prior to 1860. He and his family are listed in the 1860 census at South
Boston. He was a land owner as shown in the census. My records show that he died after
1860, presumably in Ionia County. Are there any records that would show his death and a
will? Any help will be sincerely appreciated.
