I have recently started researching my mother's father's side of the family. The family name is
BURPEE. This is what I know: Benjamin P. BURPEE married Elizabeth FORD on April 6, 1845 in Huron County, Ohio. Her family moved to Kalamazoo County about 1846. It appears that Benjamin and Elizabeth followed some time later as their first two children George and Cynthia are listed as being born in Ohio about 1846 and 1848. But by 1850 they were in Alamo Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan. They were in Wakeshma Township, Kalamazoo County Michigan in 1860; Brady Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan in 1870; Yankee Springs, Barry County, Michigan in 1880; and Prairieville Township, Barry County, Michigan in 1900. They had 10 children: George, born about 1846 in Ohio; Cynthia, born about 1848 in Ohio; Lemuel
(Samual?) born about 1849 in Michigan. He is only listed on the 1850 census as a one year old, but never appeared again. He may have died young. Elma J. born about 1853 in Michigan. John L., born about 1855 in Michigan; Jay S. born about 1857 in Michigan; William A., born about 1859 in Michigan; May L., born about 1867 in Michigan (my great-grandmother) Anna A. , born about 1871 in Michigan. Elizabeth's parent's are George FORD and Anna LYONS from Cayuga County, New York. She was born in New York and they moved to Ohio about 1830. I do not know who Benjamin's parents are, but strongly suspect that they are Pearson BURPEE and Cynthia BARTLETT. (A lot of circumstantial evidence, but no real confirmation yet.) I do not know when Benjamin and Elizabeth died, but it would have to be after 1900 and probably before 1910. (They are both on the 1900 census, and neither is on the 1910 census.) Do any of the names sound familiar to anyone? I would love to hear from any descendents of this family, that may know more about them. Thanks for any help you can give me.
