Dear Fellow Genealogists,
With in the past year, under the leadership of our past president, Dick Welch, the Kalamazoo Valley Genealogical Society has taken a new direction. After years of relative inactivity, our society is once more very much alive. The 1971-72 season has seen the publishing of the "Kalamazoo Valley Family Newsletter", a membership increase of 200% with members from California to Maine, and last but most important, the society is now a working society.
As in all organizations, there are always two groups - active and passive members. We of the KVGS, however, feel all members can be active whether you live in Kalamazoo or Kansas City. Besides working on your particular family, as a genealogist, you should be concerned with preserving and sharing your records with generations to come. With this thought in mind, the KVGS has created a research committee which will record and collect all genealogical and historical material pertaining to the Kalamazoo Valley. We hope all genealogists will become active and send our society copies of bible records, diaries, letters, family trees etc.. As space permits, these records will be published in the "Newsletter", indexed and filed in cur library.
As new president of the KVGS, I feel this "Letter from the President" column should be filled with your ideas and suggestions, thus becoming a sounding board. A good topic to start off with could be What do you expect of a genealogy society? Letters on this subject or other comments will be published in this column.
