THE DANN FAMILY
In 1795 or about that time there was born a child named David Dann, in Merry old England. Nothing could be found out about his parentage, or birthplace, other than England. He married an English girl named Sarah Baker and to this union was born eleven children. Sarah did not live to see the entire family grow to mature manhood or womanhood as she died at the age of 43 on Feb. 29, 1844. David must have been a lonely man after that, and after two of his sons left for America in 1846. In 1849 he decided to take as many of his children (their wives and families) as cared to go, and find hs two sons in America. They came to Gun Plains Twp. where he lived out the remainder of his 8 years and where he was buried in 1875 in the Oakwood Cemetery 1 mile north and mile east of Plainwell. (Southeast corner of cemetery) The following birth. announcements of his children were copied from records kept in an old Bible.
1. Sarah - Borned at. 5o'clock in the afternoon, Jan. 18th, 1823 in England. Chose to come to America in 1849. Married - Frank Bonifact. Lived in America on Gun Marsh Road, 7 miles N. E. of Plainwell. Their children: Lucy, Sarah, Caroline, William, Frank, David, Caleb, Trayten. Sarah is buried near Orangeville.
2. David Dann Jr. - Domed at 8 o'clock March 13th, 1824 in Hurstmonnuex, Sussex, England. Chose to come to America in 1849. Married - Sarah Reed - Daughter. of Thomas and Harriet Boots Reed. She was born Dec. 30, 1830 at Heathfield, Sussex, England. She died at the age of 91 on Sent. 2, 1921. Buried in Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell. They lived in America on the Gun Marsh Road at the present joining of the Gun Marsh Road and 6th Avenue. He died Nov. 3, in 1865 and was buried in Spiritualist Cemetery. Later he was transferred to the Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell.He was only 41 years old. years old.
Children of David and Sarah Reed Dann
a) Dorcas - Porn June 26, 1851 in Heathfield, Sussex, England and died at the age of 94 years. Aug. 7th, 1945 in Burley, Idaho where she went to live with her husband, J. Martin Harris, and 6 children. They were married on Mar. 211., 1867.
b) Ester - Born May 1, 1854, Allegan County. She died at the ace of 64, Jar. 8th, 1918. She married Edwin Ryder on. April 1(, 1879. Children: Gary, Minnie, Edna.
c) James William - Born. Aug. 19, 1856 Gunplains Twp., Allegan County. Died at the ape of 40 years, Dec. 20, 1894. He was married to Emma Lovett and lived near. Sand Lake, Michigan. Children: Roscoe, Cleo and Ethel Nay. Cleo married a Grandy and her children were Norman, Donna, Dora, Carmen, Robert.
d) Mary Jane - Born May 3, 1859 in Gunplains Twp. Allegan County. She died at the age of 24 in 1883 in Plainwell and buried at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell. At that time they called TB the Galloping Consumption. She was married to Manfred Earle. They had but one child, Clifford Earle, born June 22, 1882.
e) Martha Ann - Born May 15, 1861 in Gunplains Twp., Allegan County, and died at the age of 79 years on Oct. 25th, 1940. She was buried in Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell and was married to Edward Honeysette and lived in Plainwell. Children: Roy, who died at the age of 15, Ray who ran a grocery store in Plainwell for almost his entire life. Rita, who lived in Plainwell. Her husband ran a hardware store. Rena, who married a mailman in Burr. Oak.
f) Minnie Eliza - Born Aug. 9th, 1865 in Gunplains Twp. Allegan County and died at the age of 30 years, Aug. 10, 1695. She married Eugene Huntley July 29, 1889 and they had one child, a daughter named Mildred. Mildred married a man named Carnes and they had one child named June.
3. Mary - Born Oct. 9, 1825 in England at half after 9:00 in the morning, and died at 57 years of age on Oct. 4, 1883. She married a cousin, John Dann in England, and they had no children. They lived in America about 3 miles east of Shelbyville, Mich. She was buried in the German Cemetery near there.
4. William - Born Nov. 21, 1826 in England at half after 3:00 P.M. and died in 1911 at 85 years of age. William chose not to come to America and lived his entire life in England. He married Fanny Smart and lived at Jevington, Polegate, Sussex, England. To them were 12 children born. Jane, Dorcas, Clara, Mark, Alfred, Hosea, William, Sarah, Joseph, Millicent and Fred.
5. Obed - Borned in July 4, 1829 at 5:00 in the morning in England. Died of Consumption at the age of __ , on__. He was bured at Oakwood Cemetery near Plainwell. He Never married. John Emery took care of him.

Charles
- Born in Sept. 14, 1831 in England at half past 5 in the morning. He died at
the age of __ in
_________. Came to America in 1846 with his brother Ephriam.
He went with his brother out to California on a gold hunting expedition in 1854
and returned in 1856. Upon his return from California he bought a farm north of
Otsego for $500. He kept this for 10 years and then bought a farm where the
Kalamazoo and Gun rivers come together. This contained about 100 acres. Then he
bought what is still known as the Dann farm, 2 miles north and 1 mile east of
Otsego. Here he died. He was married to Ruth Wilson and their six children were:
Sarah, Obed, George, William, Julian and Mary.
7. Ephriam - Borned Sept. 21, 1833 at half after 1:00 in the morning in England. He came with his brother Charles to America in 1846 and went with Charles to California in 1850. He met and married a woman with one child and they lived in Walnut Grove, Sacremento County. He never returned to the east and it is probable that he died and was buried there, in Walnut Grove.
8. James
- Borned Aug. 24, 1835 at 5 in the morning in England. Came to America with his
father in 1849. Married Lucy Wilson the sister of Charles' wife. They owned and
died on the old Wilson Farm west of Shelbyville in Hopkins Twp. They had six
Children
Eliza, Emeralda, Albert, Ruth, Fannie, Edna. In his ( ) year he died. 1895 and
was buried at what is now called Ohio Corners, Hopkins Twp.
9. Eliza - Borned Jan. 16, 1838 at half after 12:00 noonday in England. One year later she died Jan. 29, 1839 at noonday.
10. Daniel - Borned May 11, 1839 at 5 in the afternoon in England. Came to America with his father. He did not marry and died in the south during the Civil War, on May 11, 1864 on his 25th birthday, in the Battle of the Wilderness.
11. George - Borned Nov. 29, 1842 at quarter after 7 in the evening in England. Died at the age of 38 on Aug. 10, 1880 of Typhoid Fever. He chose to stay in England and he married and had two boys, George
