Keeney, Corwin: Co. H. 5th Michigan Cavalry. Son of Marvin D & Sally (Barker) Keeney of Omer. Enlisted 8 December 1863 at E Saginaw, MI. Taken prisoner 11 June 1864 at Trevillian Station, VA and taken to the Andersonville Prison in GA on 22 June 1864 where he died 11 January 1865 of “scorbutus” (scurvy). Fritts, Harold William: 472nd Military Police Escort Guard Co. Born 14 March 1923 in Melita. Entered US Army 23 March 1943, enforcing military laws and regulations, maintaining order and control of individuals and traffic in countries in which US forces were exercising Military government, guarded prisoners and other foreign personnel in France and Germany. Lee, Richard Lyman: Master Sergeant US Army. Born 8 December 1927. Enlisted in the US Army on his 18th birthday and served in Germany during World War II and also in Viet Nam, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Died 16 April 1967, buried in Sims-Whitney Cemetery. | Contributed by Dennis R. Lee
Ostrander, Glenn Willis: Sgt, US Army Military Police Officer. Son of Oscar and Carmen (Carpenter) Ostrander, born 8 October 1922 in Twining. Entered US Army 29 December 1942, Serial No 36415594. Ostrander served in the battle of Luzon, along with other duty stations. Honorably Discharged on 19 January 1946 as a Military Police Officer after earning the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, Phillippine Liberation Ribbon, 3 Overseas Service Bars, 1 Service Stripe and a Good Conduct Medal. Ostrander, Robert Keith: PFC 3281st Ordnance Base, light truck driver. Son of Oscar and Carmen (Carpenter) Ostrander, born 7 August 1925 in Twining. Entered the US Army on 3 April 1945, Serial No 36492741. Honorably Discharged from service 11 October 1946. Served 8 months and 16 days overseas during military service and earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Died 22 December 1977 in Genesee Co, MI. Ripenbark, Floyd Burton: Pvt 3612th QM TRK CO Heavy Truck Operator. Son of Floyd G and Zelta (Irish) Ripenbark, born 29 July 1918 in Iosco Co, MI. Resided with his parents and other family members of Arenac Co when he entered the US Army 29 April 1943, Serial No 36850148. Honorably Discharged 29 December 1945 and returned to Arenac Co. Received AM Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal, Rifle Marksman. Died 7 September 1970 in the VA Hospital, Wayne Co, MI, buried at North View Cemetery in Dearborn, Wayne Co, MI. | Contributed by Doris Demet
Weishuhn, Russell: S/Sgt. Co. C. 326th Airborne Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. Son of Charles and Maggie (Trombley), born 13 May 1921 in the Keystone area near Whittemore, MI. Volunteered for the Paratroops and served honorably through the war until 1945. Married to Rachel (Humerickhouse) for over 57 years. Died 22 February 1999 in Port Charlotte, FL.
