Interested in any information on Haffell COY. Haffell COY apprenticed as a shipwright in Gravesend, ENG starting in 1801. By 1815 he was in Kingston, ON. A land sale lists his occupation as a shipwright. Would be interested in any information on him or ships he may have built.

Looking for any info on great uncles Martin Leyden and John F. Leyden who were sailors on Lake Erie. Both of them died in the early 30's. Were both born in Ireland and emigrated to Kelleys Island and Sandusky about 1870. John may have died in a bad storm accident on Lake Erie. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

James Walter HATSWELL died Jan. 31, 1885 according to records in Toledo, Ohio, but there is no certificate of death. Family stories say he died while working as a merchant marine on an iron ore ship that made it's run on the Great Lakes. The ship had a wreck and he went down with it somewhere between Detroit and Toledo. His wife's name was Mary Kelly. After his death she moved from Toledo to Green Oaks twp., MI. I am searching for any information on my Grandfather, Ernest MENTON/MINTON. Ernest used both spellings of the name at different times. My Mother recalls that he was in the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes, sometime between 1920 and 1935. Ernest had a Brother named Levi that may also have served in the Merchant Marines, and died while serving. I would appreciate any information, or any direction that anyone may be able to provide. Thanks. Ray Sestak

Previously posted note and have since learned that my Dad William MCGILLICUDDY sailed during the late 1920's through the mid 1930's on the Perry White and Marquette ships. May have been owned by the Cleveland Cliffs Company. He was an oiler. Anyone out there with info on either of the ships mentioned. The only other ship that I remember hearing about was the
"LaSalle" ... may have been last ship he sailed on before quitting and returning to Grand Rapids MI.

WYMAN, Thomas Benjamin Harry b. 1898 in Ohio. Supposedly joined the Merchants Marines and was discharged (probably dishonorably). This was probably in the 1920-30 years. TUTTLE, Frank worked the shipyards out of Wyandotte, Mich. How to find what ships he worked on. Believe he travelled to NY and back, but not sure.

Until the war my uncle worked on the great lakes. I recently found that my uncle, Albert Collins was on the Ship
"SSMargaret" which went down April 14, 1942 while on route from Puerto Rico to New York. The ship was owned by A.H. Bull & Co. New York, NY does anyone know anything about how to contact the shipping co? Did they keep records about the men who sailed on their ships? What about Insurance companies? If you know anything that will help me get more information about my uncle, please contact me, Thanks, Joan

I was told my Grandmother was a Stewerdess on boats that traveled the Great Lakes. Her name was Helen (Lena) MUDWAY. She arrived from England in 1871 and I would guess her service would have been 1871 possibly through the 1870's. Does anyone have listings of employees on boats during this period ?? Her home base would have been Milwaukee, WI. Thanks for anything !! Louise LOUPerry@aol.com

Later on, he worked as a ship carpenter, and as a builder. He was married to Ruth Jane Wood on 8 Jun 1891, in the second house he had built in Benton Harbor. Would like any inf. re.
"Mabel Bradshaw," her crews, and her sailing routes.
