COOK, HUMPHREY, MCELROY posted by Diane Decker- Warneke on Saturday, September 19, 1998

I'm hoping to connect with anyone who may have information on the following : McELROY, Michael, Rose, & children Elllen (b. 1848), James (b. 1851), John (b. 1854), Patrick (b. 1857), Hugh (b. 1859), Sarah (b. 1866) came to Ionia Co. from WI abt 1871-78 -- first settled in Lake Odessa, later Ionia City/Twp. Michael d. 1904; Rose d. 1900; John d. 1898; Sarah d. 1950. I'm particularly interested in the boys and their families as nothing at all is known other than their name & approx. birthyear. TIA I've only recently learned of this new connection and hope to learn more about : COOK, Alvin & Ellen McElroy -' may' have married in WI prior to coming to Ionia Co., arriving abt 1875, they had 2 children, Rose & ??. Alvin d. 1917; Ellen d. 1922. Raymond B. Cook still resided in Ionia in 1950 and was probably a grandson of Alvin & Ellen. TIA This surname is a puzzle and I'm trying to fit the pieces together : HUMPHREY, Charles & Sarah McElroy - most likely married in Ionia Co. Charles 'supposedly' b. OH abt 1860; Sarah b. 1866 WI. Charles 'supposedly' died prior to birth of only son, Charles James in 1891, Ionia. All correspondence is welcome. TIA

BAILEY, DECKER, HAIGHT posted by Diane Decker- Warneke on Saturday, September 19, 1998

Edward DECKER (b. 1859/MI) married Mrs. Anna Bailey HAIGHT (b. 1848/OH) in 1881. They made their home in Odessa Township, Ionia Co. The children born to them were: Warren (b.1881/d.1881), Harry (b.1882/d.1941), Stella (b.aft 1882), 2nd Daughter (b.aft 1882). Anne came to this marriage with a son, Fred Haight (b. 1869/OH/d. 1948/Ionia). I'm trying to learn where Edward & Anne may be buried, as well as death dates. Edward may have died 1926; Anne in 1935. Anne may have married a KENNEDY after Edward's death. Harry Decker married Hercie DURKEE-MYERS and moved to Woodland, Barry Co. Harry d. 1941; Hercie d. 1986. They had one son, Murray L. Decker, b. 1914/d.1993. Stella Decker married John ABBOTT and they lived until their deaths (aft 1941) in Lake Odessa, one son, Nelson b. abt 1906. I'm hoping to learn more about the Abbott family. TIA The 2nd Daughter Decker married Neil SULLIVAN; they lived their lives in Ionia Co. and d. after 1941. I would like to know her first name; were there children of this union? TIA Fred HAIGHT married Anna nee?? in 1897 in Ionia Co. The children: Cleora (1897), Carlyle (1897), Clyde (1899), Pauline (1901), Galen (1903), Thera (1905), Arlie (1907). They and (most) children are buried in Lakeside Cem. in Lake Odessa Twp. What was Anna's last name? Are there current members of the Haight family still in Ionia? Would like to make connection. TIA

ASHLEY, JOHNSON posted by Rob Bower on Monday, September 21, 1998

My paternal grandmother was Mildred Ashley. Her grandfather, John Ashley, Jr. (3/3/1842) married Mary L. Johnson who died in May, 1873. John Ashley, Jr. had come to Lyons from Greenbush, NY. Their son, Herbert James Ashley (1869-1948) lived in Lyons all his life as far as I can tell, marrying Alice Steinauer (1867-1939). It is my understanding that both John Ashley and Herbert Ashley were stone masons active in construction in Ionia County. John Ashley joined the Michigan 21st in 1863. Any info would be appreciated and reciprocated. .

IONIA COUNTY FARM posted by Barb Rode Bonham on Wednesday, September 30, 1998

I am seeking information about the Ionia County Farm. Was it a county nursing home? or a place just for the poor? Do records of previous "patients" still exist? If so, where can I find them? Where was this place located? Thank you for any information you can provide.
