HICKS, SMITH posted by Marla Stout on Thursday, November 5, 1998

My mother is a member of the Jackson County Geneological Society in Indiana. She has been tracing her family roots. She has a picture of her father, Jay Lewey Smith which was taken in about 1886 and labeled Ionia, Mi. He was a baby- 1 or 2 at the time. His mother, Cora Filema (sometimes spelled Philema) Hicks Smith might have died there between 1886 and 1918. She was married to John F. Smith. It might be that Jay Lewey would be listed as a child in the 1890 census. Can you give me a lead that I might pass on to her? Thanks a lot.

ROWE posted by Sally Kennamer on Tuesday, November 17, 1998

I am STILL seeking information on the death date of my great great grandpa JOSEPH ROWE. He lived in Danby, Ionia Mi from 1850 to at least 1870. His wife rebecca Wellman Rowe died in 1869 and is buried at Danby cemetery. The cemetery records also list Joseph as being buried there but there is nostone and the record does not show a death date. He was living in Oceana county MI in the 1880 census by himself. His daughter married there in 1874 and the 1900 census (with no 1890 census available to check) he does not appear in Oceana but his son Robert who had lived in Danbt previously does. I am wondering if Joseph died during this time frame and Robert moved his family to that farm in Oceana and buried Joseph next to Rebecca but could not afford a stone or if Joseph moved farther west to WI where his daughter lived (Frances Gilbert)? I would like to discover the death date by the end of the month (which is fast approaching), a time goal I set for myself. I decided that if I have not located that death date by then I will have to let it rest with the earth's history and go on to another ancestor. Any help anyone can give me or advise as to where to search would be so greatly appreciated. WHERE ARE YOU JOSEPH????AND WHEN DID YOU DIE???? Thanks Sally
