COVELL, POST posted by Al Covell on Sunday, December 6, 1998

On 2-22-1865 Dwight COVELL of "Orleans Post", Ionia Co., married Sarah Post at Smyrna, Ionia Co. They were married by the Rev.L.B.Fish. I have a large database on the COVELL family but I have never been able to gain any information on the COVELL's who located in Ionia Co. At this point if I could obtain anything on Dwight's parents, birth date (it was around 1837) or birth place I might be able to begin to solve this long standing mystery. Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to provide.

GILBERT, ROWE, WELLMAN posted by Sally Kennamer on Sunday, December 13, 1998

I am still searching for any information on the death of Joseph ROWE of Danby, Ionia MI. His wife Rebecca Wellman died in 1869, and is buried in Danby Cemetery. I can not find (I have searched far and wide!) where Joseph died or is buried. To confuse me there are a couple Jospeh Rowe's in Ionia county but I can not connect them. Any light someone could shed on this family would certainly be a shining star on my Christmas tree this year! Joseph was born 6-27-1818 in Hebron, Oxford Maine to Joseph and Eleanor (Irish) Rowe. They lived in Lorain County Ohio and then Hasting, Barry MI before moving to Ionia county, settling in Danby. By 1880 he (Joseph is living alone in Oceana County. But that is the last I can trace him. In 1900 he is not on the census list there (or anywhere!!!!!!)

GUERNSEY posted by Angie on Thursday, December 24, 1998

I am looking for any information on the Guernseys that lived on or by Guernsey Rd, Riverside Dr. in Ionia county. Melvin and Eva Guernsey was my gg grandparents. Melvin had a brother, Chandler and a sister dora. He also had several half brothers and a half sister. His fathers name was Horace. But who was his mother? I believe his stepmothers name was Phronie ????...Melvin and Eva had 3 children Flora, Minnie and Leonard. Minnie married a Roy C. Ward and lived on riverside Drive. If anyone has any information I sure would love to hear from them. Thanks

Response: (3/28/09)
The Phronie she mentions may be Sophrone Linson of the Asa/Hannah Linson family.  I spoke to Minnie many years ago, but she was unable to enlighten me further.  I am not sure of the details of the Guernseys...they are a huge branch off my family (Randall) and many marriages between the two.

I got a Guernsey/Garnsey family book from Judith L. Young Thayer, who had them in stock.  The book covers more than 200 pages of marriages, deaths, burials and more, from as much information as she and her mother were able to glean over both their lifetimes.  I still have the book, but it would be difficult to find at this time, as much of my possessions are in storage and otherwise boxed up for changing storage locations.

"Hot" Guernsey was known to my family of Randalls, and was possibly some relation to John C. Randall. One story involved the two walking together, when they saw a fresh washing out on the line to dry.  Horace (Hot) said he should "take in my laundry", whereupon he collected this unknown person's laundry from that line (somewhere on the North end of Ionia.  After this, John Randall didn't want to hang with him any longer.   I seem to recall he was also related to Dennis Guernsey and his sister Dorothy Guernsey (Teall), but I am not sure how.
