We are looking for information regarding Stanley and Emma Gilmore of Ronald Township. We are aware of their deaths, but any information about them, prior to the incident, and any genealogical info would be greatly appreciated. Anyone who knew them we would be glad to talk to. My wife is a decendent of the Gilmore's. They were from Ionia county, but our gen info stops at them.

BARRETT, COLE, DANN, JAYNE, NORTON, NYE, OWEN, STOWE posted by Mary Kay COLE Ward on Saturday, April 3, 1999

I'm searching for informatio about the Barrett family: Alfred and Corintha RICHMOND BARRETT and Alfred's parent's David and Deborah Fisher Barrett of Muir, Ionia Co., Mich. The LDS file has Alfred BARRETT b. 1808 of Muir,Ionia Co, Mich., the son of David Barrett and Deborah Fisher; his spouse, Corintha Richmond b. 1812 Ridgeway, Orleans County, NY. Alfred Barrett's and Corintha Richmond's known children: #1.David b 1834/1835 Ridgeway, Orleans Co.,NY #2.Alfred Richmond Barrett b. 14 Nov 1835 Ridgeway,Orleans Co. NY; d. 1 Jun 1904 Ann Arbor,Washtenaw Co.,Michigan married Clarissa Adams. #3. Adeliza Barrett b. Ridgeway, NY #4. Addie Barrett b. 1842 Highland twp.,Oakland Co,Michigan. #5. Sarah Barrett b. 1845 Oakland Co.,Mich. #6. Walter Barrett b. 1848 Oakland Co., Mich. Alfred and Corintha R. Barrett moved about 1840 from NY to Highland twp., Oakland County, Michigan. Alfred's father, David Barrett was born 21 Feb 1777 in Killingly, Windham Co, Connecticut and with his wife Deborah Fisher and 7 children they apparently lived for a period of time in Muir, Ionia County, Michigan. David died at age 63 in Kingsville, Ashtabula County, Ohio. I spent some years in an orphanage as a child and knew little about my roots. As a 5 yr. old child [in 1940] I was taken several times to visit two elderly ladies in Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, one whose name was Addie NYE Norton. I believe they were related to my father, Victor Arthur Cole who was b. 1912 in Painesville, OH and who married my mother, Mary Elizabeth Carter in 1933 in Painesville, OH. I never forgot the name, Addie Nye NORTON because I liked the way it sounded and probably because she fed me cookies!! I've found that my father's only aunt was named Edith Corintha Cole b. 28 July 1862 in Colebrook, Ashtabula Co., Ohio & died 28 July 1945 in Perry, Lake Co., Ohio. Edith C. Cole married George NYE on 14 Feb 1883. My theory is that George Nye and Edith C. COLE had a daughter born est. 1884 who they named Addie NYE -after her grandmother whose name was also Addie--"Addie" Barrett Cole. Additionally, my theory is that Addie NYE married a Mr. Norton and that is the Addie NYE Norton I met as a child. It's possible that the elderly ladies were my great aunt, Edith Corintha Cole NYE who died at age 83 in 1945 when I was 10 years old and her daughter, Addie Nye NORTON. Addie NYE Norton would have been about 60 yrs old when her mother, Edith COLE died. I hope someone recognizes something here and will write to me. Thanks! Mary Kay COLE Ward,

HEYMAN, MAUER, MAURER, MOWRY posted by Tina Hursh on Monday, April 19, 1999

I am looking for any information on the family of Samuel (b. abt 1814)and Elizabeth (b. abt 1813) MAURER. i found the first mention of the family in Germans to America. Samuel and his family arrived in New York 26 May 1854 on the ship Wm. Layton. According the passenger lists Samuel came over with his wife and the following children: Melchior (b. abt 1829), Marie (b. abt. 1843), Johan (b. abt. 1845), Jacob (b. abt 1847), Samuel (b. abt 1850), Friedrich (b. 21 March 1852), and Rudolph (b. 1854). The family came from Switzerland and settled in Seneca Co., OH, but I have heard that some of the children may have eventually settled in Iona County, MI. I am descended from Frederich and his wife Minnie HEYMAN. They are my ggg-grandparents. What happended Samuel, Elizabeth and their other children? I would love to hear from anyone also researching this family. I am willing to share what info I have on Fred's line (I don't have anything on Fred's siblings yet). MAURER could also be spelled MAUER or MOWRY. Thanks, Tina Hursh frog158@juno.com

BATEY, BEATTIE, BEATTY, CRIST posted by Rod PENNINGTON on Wednesday, April 21, 1999

My ggg grandather Robert Jackson BEATTIE (b. 1808 in NY) migrated with his wife Sally Ann CRIST from Orange Co., NY to Bloomfield Twp., Oakland Co., MI just before the 1830 census. Appearing in Bloomfield, Oakland Co. at the same time was Thomas BEATTIE (Thomas Montgomery BEATTIE, b. 1789 NY, d. 1856) who later migrated to Ionia Co. with his family including sons Nathaniel, Robert W., and James Abbott. Several of us are attempting to substantiate a connection between Robert Jackson BEATTIE and Thomas BEATTIE, with hopes of deciphering earlier connections going back to Orange Co., NY and beyond. The father of Thomas is said to be James BEATTIE. Please contact me if you have information regarding this family. Best regards, Rod Rod PENNINGTON, rodpenn@iquest.net (PS-great website!)

SMITH, WOOD posted by Katie Lyon on Monday, May 3, 1999

On October 6,1887, my great grandmother Alice Smith was born in Ionia County to James(William?)Smith and Alice Smith(Paustle, Possel?). She had at least 2 brothers, James and Herbert. On September 20, 1904, she married John J. Wood, who was also from Ionia. His parents on the marriage certificate were listed as Melvin and Alice Wood. He was born in Ionia County , possibly on May 15, 1879. He may have had a sister named Alberta. John and Alice had 3 daughters, Mildred(1905, my grandmother), Bessie and Thelma. Alice eventually married an Ernest Truesdell. She died February 1, 1944, and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I would like to know whatever happened to John Wood--did he die, or re-marry and have more children? I think there may also be some Smiths' in Ionia that are relatives. My mother recalls visiting some "cousins" with my father, who lived out in the country near the city of Ionia or Prairie Creek. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
